hi all

i would like update manager program open up each time i restart the computer

so obviously i went to the built in startup program and checkmarked on "update manager"

but this doesn't accomplish that :(

i think the point of checkmarking that on is that it shows up in the system tray

any ideas?

thx

Yes, you are quite correct. That should cause the update manager to show up in the system tray.

Try rebooting....see if that changes its mind ?

I don't know the exact settings, but the update manager is usually pre-programmed to check at regular intervals for security updates when the machine is on

hi c - tried that and it doesn't work :(

you can't do anything in linux. this sucks (as usual)

Click on menu
Type in update manager

Click on update manager

click on Edit

then click on preferences

Put a tick in the box to Refresh the List of updates Automatically

Then refresh the list of after : 3 minutes
Then, refresh the list of updates every : 2 hours

UNtick .. only show notification for security and kernel updates

UNtick Hide the update manager after applying updates
UNtick Only show a tray icon when updates are available or in case of errors

It will look like this

The Update Manager in Mint works best if you leave it alone...when you turn on the Computer you see the Update Manager shield on the panel.

If there are updates you'll see an orange circle...click it and install them...you can also click Refresh...simple.

No need to check for updates every 5 mins...it will tell you and you choose when to install them. It will also tell you when to change mirrors and when to install a new Update Manager too.

Copy and paste the result back here in your next reply.

Maybe you should complain to the Mint Team...see how that goes.
