Writing Own CAN Protocol Modules

I would like to extend CAN module to CAN XL and also use linux CANSocket to send CANXL frames and interpret them on Wireshark.
But I am new to Linux so I am not sure how to do this.

1. What are the steps to integrate CANXL module in the existing CAN module.
2. Can I use the existing CANSocket to send CANXL frames or do I need to create something similar to CANSocket for CANXL.
3. What changes are needed in Wireshark to interpret the CANXL frames?
