Well, that's a pretty broad topic...

Uf you want to make your own distro, you need a deep understanding. You need to start by completing an LFS. Do a websearch "Linux From Scratch", pull it off and you're ready to go (will take you around 1-2 months depending on your free time).

Most people don't. They just want to customise an existing distro. Almost all distros have a "respin" or "remaster" took (Antix is very easy here). Just search the internet.
@Lord Boltar can prolly help here since he has some experience. His project:
https://sourceforge.net/projects/expirion-linux/

TBH, you need to be more familiar with Linux. I say this because if you were ready to make your own distro by forking an entire project or just doing a respin, you wouldn't be asking.

This article may be of help. It is written by someone who had done what you want to do and shows the steps he took to do it. Good luck.

Why build your own distribution there already are plenty distributions to choose from, making your own distribution will take a lot of time and dedication. Do you have have time and dedication if the answer to one of those is no then don't start.

Guys, I know OP seems a little...ambitious... but I think s/he wants to do it more for fun or a school project. When I was doing transcribing years back, I had my own custom AntiX spin especially for that purpose. Just saying. Prolly s/he's a teenager, but it's good that this up-coming generation take an interest in tech that isn't a phone (lol, not like they'll have anything to offer if they don't, lol).

In that case wouldn't it be better to join an existing project that way they can learn as well.

That's actually not a bad idea. I mean I couldn't have when I was younger because I had half the DSM's personality disorders, but for a normal to normalish person, should be great as you learn collaboration skills and version control and other useful stuff besides spinning (unless it's single-purpose, like my "Translinux" which turned out to be a misleading name -- lucky I made it for myself only, coulda caused myself real grief). Yeah, definitely good collaborating.

I am inclined to go with Brian - that is, troll. And I like Arochester's Vampire :)

The OP has not been back in over 24 hours, after duplicating what is just a table from our Downloads page and little else.

@Repondeo if you are serious, try the options suggested of

1. LFS Linux from Scratch and/or
2. Join an existing project.

In the meantime, I am locking this thread with a view to delete.

...because I had half the DSM's personality disorders...

... and I have the other half, James, mine under the DSM-IV now superceded by DSM-V ;)
