I can't turn on developer mode on my Chromebook

I tried turning on developer mode (esc+refresh) on my Chromebook to download Ubuntu but nothing is happening; does anyone know a possible cause?

im sorry, i just realized this thread should've been put on the, "getting started" board.

Looks like you need to "press and hold down the Esc and Refresh keys and then tap the Power button.".

Not all chromebooks can be made to run Linux,
Once you enter development mode, there is no going back
