I'm not if this should be here, gaming or another place

Now that I've actually been able to use my ASUS, I can see that the graphics aren't up to par. I'm at the beginning of the process to install the proprietary drivers. Radeon highly recommends uninstalling all components of the AMDGPU stack. I've done that part in the terminal.
  • $ amdgpu-uninstall
I'm done this part in the terminal.

Now I'm supposed to reboot "the target system". That's all it says, no command.
I'm still in kindergarten. Can someone please help me with this?
If I get stuck again, I'll come back to this thread.

Thank you!

I found this...

reboot.target

I'm going to keep looking

This is all WAY over my head.!

Everything I'm seeing seems to be about rebooting the entire system. I don't know if rebooting the entire system will have the same effect as only rebooting the target system. Researching every command leads to more commands to look up.

I did find one article Systemd Target Units Explained that seems to have something to do with this. I don't I know enough yet to understand what all of this means.

I'm going to wait for help while I get a few things done. If no one replies yet, I'll keep looking on my own.

Can someone please help me with this?
I will just try to help, ok!
I don't know, if by rebooting now you will break things, but when I've done that, nvidia(from source), I selected Beta and Older Drivers because with newer drivers "things goes messy" or not work properly.
When choosing a driver, pic one with support to a "feature"/whatever you want to achieve with that GPU.
Done that via TTY, from the beginning...on some distros works, some don't.

As for OP, I'd suggest calming down and waiting to learn before messing around with drivers. If the computer is working, let it work.

Also, we tend to frown on 'bumping' your own thread. LOL (You can just edit your first comment to add more information.) This way you don't keep showing up in new for those who are keeping up with the site, among other things.

FWIW.
Quoted from here.

For an AMD/ATI video card

"For an AMD/ATI video card you have to stick to the default open source driver. Because the closed AMD Catalyst (fglrx) drivers are not compatible with Linux Mint.

These closed fglrx drivers are proprietary and so their code is not available. AMD indicated they no longer wanted to support them and urged their customers to use open-source drivers instead.

If you're using an AMD or ATI GPU in Linux Mint, the operating system will automatically select either the radeon or the amdgpu driver for you, and both of these open-source drivers are installed by default."

Been my experience that AMD / ATI Radeon installed the opensource graphics driver at the time of install.

Now I'm supposed to reboot "the target system".
SImply, reboot.
Menu, quit button, select reboot
(you can also do it from the terminal....I forget the command....probably reboot...?)

Edit ti ADD

in terminal

Rich (BB code):
reboot

Yes, it works

Graphics.

click on menu....type in Driver Manager....it will automatically scan.

Take a screenshot of the result and post it back here, please.

btw...if yu have found the screenshot tool in the menu items, well and good.

If yu want a choice. go to software manager and type in flameshot......install it.

Once installled, right click on its name in the menu and select add to panel.......that will put a shortcut in the panel for you. It is good to use.

Gees!
I wish they just said that on the website. It would have saved me a lot of time!

AMD indicated they no longer wanted to support them and urged their customers to use open-source drivers instead.

They could have told me this too!

If you're using an AMD or ATI GPU in Linux Mint, the operating system will automatically install...amdgpu driver for you, and both of these open-source drivers are installed by default."

Yes, amdgpu was installed by default

Been my experience that AMD / ATI Radeon installed the opensource graphics driver at the time of install.

When I downloaded the drivers, I got a message that it was already installed. Now I know why.

Graphics.

click on menu....type in Driver Manager

Every time I saw that I thought I saw "Drive", like a storage drive. I never noticed that "R"

After those 2 Lenovo's you better believe I know exactly what the Screenshot tool is!

Once installled,...add to panel.......that will put a shortcut in the panel for you. It is good to use.

That was one of the very first things I did after getting LM on the ASUS!

I know next to nothing about graphics, but Sherri, you said in your OP

I can see that the graphics aren't up to par.

If you elaborate on that a little, others might be able to provide suggestions.

On some website I routinely go to I've noticed that the resolution isn't as high as what I'm used to seeing. It was especially evident in a Zoom meeting earlier. I thought I remembered seeing someone around here say that Radeon's propriety drivers work better in Linux.

I looked in the camera settings on Zoom. There are none with Linux. There were a lot of little things I noticed that were different.

Strange.. how it looks from my end :) "to yours", like I start with a white color.

Was not my intention to "blind"/hard to read, didn't knew that.
So how do I go back from a green color(ex.) to the default color.. of this forum?
Or what to choose ?

I am calm, 7 out of 10, and I have a lot of experience installing video drivers.
My mentor said.. you will break things, but you will learn from your mistakes, don't worry it all happens on a HDD.

Besides I warned OP what could happen.

to let my brain relax and take of some other things.

@Condobloke

As for the screen shot I just posted, I have NOT rebooted the system AT ALL.

Would you like me to reboot then take another screen shot?
I the terminal open after uninstalling the amdgpu. I'm going to put it in the code thingy!

Yeah, reboot.
If the screenshot is going to be the same, no need to post it

I think the part about calming was directed at me, not you. I'm confused now about the dark screen though. I have a dark screen, but the text white.

right click on dektop and select display settings

What is the Resolution ?
