A few reasons that I like Linux and the distro I use Mint is
1/ I can watch the progress of the updates with the little terminal box as well as watch the system monitor and see the progress in the CPU as well as how quick the download was and the amount of code downloaded.
2/ With the update manager I am able to know what requires updating and what it does, the number of packages involved and the change-log of the update and its urgency and the date it was published.
With Vindows to learn anything about the updates you had to farta*se around and as for what it is doing while updating forget it.
Sometimes it seems to freeze more so with videos as I would be watching a You Tube vid and the picture freezes and the cursor disappears but the voice track on the video keeps on a speaking. Have no alternative but to hit the reset button and it restarts no problem and it does not seem to leave a crash report anywhere that I can find. But it dinna bother me since so far it recovers itself on the restart unlike Vindows where it was not that reliable then you had to go and go back to the last good one.
But I am happy I can do what I need to do and learn a bit about other programs like Krita though I am not kind of artist but it gives me something to do and something to learn so that I can apply it when I have to.
I would were I ever decide to go back mainstream for an OS I would take Mac over Vindows but before that to occur I would have gone through every other Linux distro and by that time I would be pushing up daisies as I shortly begin my 70th orbit of our Star on our beautiful Planet we call home.
