How to fix kernel panic issue on ubuntu 20.4 LTS ?

I got the following kernel panic error when I turned on my laptop this morning.
I tried to edit and init=/bin/bash/ to the grub config file with a live bootable usb.
Yet I'm clueless about what to do to fix this issue.
Here's the error:

When this happens:

kernel panic not syncing Requested init bin/bash failed

The kernel is looking for the init program and cannot find it. Your kernel image may be corrupt.

When this happened to me and I knew that the RAM wasn't bad I did a fresh installation of Linux.
I was taught by old school Linux Guru's. They basically said that the kernel rolled over and died.

You can try running:

fsck

And see if that helps.

When this happened to me and I knew that the RAM wasn't bad I did a fresh installation of Linux.
I was taught by old school Linux Guru's. They basically said that the kernel rolled over and died.

If some basic troubleshooting doesn't net a solution, this will be your easiest path (and quickest path) back to a working system - assuming there's no broken hardware, though that should rapidly manifest itself during any re-installation process.

• did you perform updates recently?
• do you have a Grub Menu, with a line Advanced Options?
• If yes to that last, does it have an older kernel to choose from?
